Be part of our Shanghai World Expo team
In 2009 we will be seeking suitably qualified people to form our dynamic, on-the-ground team for the Australian pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010.
Australia’s team was recognised as a strong drawcard at the most recent world expo in Japan. Energetic, friendly, knowledgeable and, in many cases bilingual, our people helped us to stand out from the crowd, and engage, entertain and inform.
We aim to do even better in Shanghai.
The opportunities
Around 130 positions covering almost all areas of the pavilion’s operations will be available, including but not limited to:
- Pavilion attendants and guides
- VIP reception staff
- Interpreters
- Chefs and kitchen staff
- Waiting and hospitality staff for the VIP function area
- Retail staff
What does it involve?
You will move to Shanghai for a period of around six and a half months, covering the full expo period from 1 May to 31 October 2010.
Travel costs to Shanghai, accommodation and living allowance (for Australian residents) will be provided. All staff will receive a salary, uniforms, and a comprehensive training and induction program.
Do I need to speak Chinese?
We are aiming for all our front of house staff (e.g. pavilion attendants and guides) to be bilingual. However, some opportunities exist for non-Chinese speakers, including for our kitchen staff.
What is the process?
All opportunities will be advertised on this website, and will also be advertised nationally during 2009. Check this site regularly for updates on recruitment timelines.
Please note that these positions will be recruited through DFAT’s contracted service providers, and staff will not be DFAT employees.
